15 Leading Countries In Internet Users Per Capita March 20, 1998 - According to the Internet Industry Almanac the U.S. has an overwhelming lead in Internet users with over 54% of the total 100M Internet users at year-end 1997. However, the U.S. is only ranked 4th in Internet users per capita. Finland is the leader with nearly 25% of the population being regular Internet users. The Internet Industry Almanac projects that the U.S will have over 130M Internet users or 40% of the total 327M worldwide Internet users in year 2000. The U.S. is forecasted to grow to 478 Internet users per 1,000 people in 2000 and will be ranked first in per capita Internet usage. There are currently 11 countries with over 100 Internet users per 1,000 people. By year 2000 there will be 14 more countries where over 10% of the population will be Internet users: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the UK.
